Working Together

If you are an end user, I can work directly with your network support staff. If you are a network service provider, VAR or systems integrator, I am happy to work as a sub-contractor for your company.

Typically, I solve the problem faster if I work on-site, but in certain circumstances, I can do my job effectively working from a remote location if I'm teamed with an on-site network engineer who knows the basics of performance troubleshooting and protocol analysis.

Beyond inserting my test gear, I never make configuration changes to anyone's network. My job is to locate the problem, explain its nature and characteristics to the network support staff and suggest ways that the problem can be remedied. And I'll make charts and graphs so that everyone, technical or not, can understand the problem. Then, when everyone agrees, any changes to your network will be made only through the proper channels by the proper personnel.

In terms of documentation, I'm flexible. Whether you want an authoritative 50-page professional document with all the trimmings or just a simple e-mail giving a synopsis of what happened, I'm happy to accomodate you.

I have extensive experience working in high pressure troubleshooting situations and I'm very comfortable with people looking over my shoulder while I work. I'll gladly show you my whole process start to finish. I taught network troubleshooting and protocol analysis for many years and if you want to learn about what I'm doing, I'll be very happy to teach you.

One of my mottos is "everybody in the world gets a half hour for free" and if you just need a quick answer, I will be happy to provide that for you if I can.
